If you've ever wanted to enjoy the Redondo Beach Pier or the Riviera Village, December is the month to do it. The city of Redondo Beach recently approved free parking for the month of December at both the Pier and Riviera Village.
This was done in an effort to boost the amount of people patronizing local businesses throughout the holiday season. It's a bit like an early Christmas gift from the city.
All of the parking meters along South Catalina Avenue, Pearl Street and in the Riviera Village will be covered with festive bags featuring leaves of holly and the words "Happy Holidays." Free parking will start on December 16th and will run all the way until January 1st. The free parking hours will run from 8am to 8pm. During the other hours of the day, parking will be provided at the normal rate.
The city made this decision to encourage people to shop locally instead of leaving the area to buy gifts for the holidays. Many of the best shops are found throughout the Riviera Village and the Redondo Beach Pier area. Whether you've already started shopping or you have to complete your entire list, this gives you the opportunity to do it without worrying about the cost of parking.
It's not always an easy decision for a city to provide free parking. This will cost the city about $61,000 in revenue. Regardless, the decision was made because the city believes it will greatly benefit local businesses. Along with the lost revenue, it takes manpower and money to put the bags over the meters, as well.
If you still need to get some shopping done for the holidays, make sure to head to the Pier and to Riviera Village. Enjoy the free parking, shop locally and enjoy these two wonderful areas found within Redondo Beach.
