The "Looking Glass" is one of the most unique experiences you will find along the coast of California. It's a 19 passenger semi-submersible underwater viewing boat, which provides some of the most amazing views under the water you will find. This is the perfect experience for someone that has always wanted to scuba dive, but isn't trained. Enjoy up close looks at the life under the see in this vessel.
This vessel features two, seven foot viewing windows and was created by "Sub Sea Systems." The first launch happened in 1995 and the "Looking Glass" spent many of the early years in Hawaii before traveling to Catalina and finally arriving in Redondo Beach in 2005. Chaffin & Reeves, INC purchased the vessel to replace the "S44", which was only able to carry six people at a time.
When you take a trip on the "Looking Glass", you can enjoy many types of life under the sea. Depending on the time of year, you might see small rays, smelt, calico bass, opal eyes and more. The tour is perfect for the entire family and kids love the up close look at life below the surface.
Admission and Private Charters
The "Looking Glass" is available Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 8pm. The cost is $15 per adult and $10 per child. Private charters are also available by the hours for $250. If you want to book a private charter, you must make a reservation ahead of time.
Along with the trips under the sea, you can rent pedal boats, kayaks and SUP's from the company. They are found on the International Boardwalk next to the pedal boat rental area near Seaside Lagoon. Parking is available for all guests of the "Looking Glass."
